Mitchell Scholars team up to bring California burgers to Hong Kong
Arthur Chan (MS '08) was one of the early investors in Caliburger International, a restaurant company dedicated to spreading the spirit and food of California around the world. Having launched their first restaurant in Shanghai in 2012, Caliburger set their sights on other locations.
Enter Michael Osofsky (MS '04). Michael, a former apprentice to Emeril Lagasse and executive at Lan Kwai Fong Group, Hong Kong's premier nightlife company, has lived in Hong Kong for many years. Michael and Arthur first met during a trip Arthur took to Hong Kong during his Mitchell year. Four years later, they reconnected, again in Hong Kong. After talking about their shared interest in food and Asia, they realized they might be able to work together.
With Michael's tremendous help, Caliburger has just signed a franchising deal to open its first Hong Kong location in 2013. In addition to China and several countries in the Middle East, Caliburger can now add Hong Kong to its growing roster of international locations.
