Applying to the Mitchell Scholars Program
Persons interested in applying to the Mitchell Scholars Program are encouraged to begin preparing their applications well in advance of the Tuesday, 5 October 2010 deadline. All applications for the Mitchell Scholars Program must be submitted through the online application on our website online application. Once you create an account to apply, you will receive a confirmation email with your password, which you will need each time you access your application. All letters of recommendation and the institutional endorsement must be submitted online as well. General information about the program is available on this website, and in our downloadable brochure. Instructions for the online application can be found on our website under Application Procedures; as well as on the application website. You will also find answers to your questions in the FAQs section.
Candidates are required to provide five letters of recommendation, proof of US citizenship (passport/birth certificate), academic transcripts, completed online application, and a well-thought out 1000-word personal essay. In addition, those candidates who are full-time students at the time of application (all full-time undergraduate, graduate, or professional students are considered enrolled) must obtain an institutional endorsement. Three of the five letters of reference must come from persons with whom the candidate has done academic work (courses or research). Those who are not full-time students at the time of application do not need an institutional endorsement. For these candidates, of the five letters of reference required, only two must be from persons with whom the candidate has done academic work. They may also have a sixth letter submitted by their undergraduate institution as an endorsement.
It is important that candidates spend sufficient time examining the various programs at the different Irish/Northern Ireland universities in order to determine which programs in which they are most interested and for which they are qualified. Information about higher education in Ireland and Northern Ireland can be found at: Institutions of Higher Learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the institutional endorsement and letters of recommendation are received by the Mitchell Scholars Program by the Tuesday, 5 October 2010 deadline. No exceptions will be made for late applications. Only applications that are complete by the national deadline will be considered.
